eBay shipping label not printing 4×6?

If your eBay label fills a whole 8.5 × 11 page, or comes out shrunk on a 4 × 6 thermal label, eBay is giving you its standard-paper format. Switch the label format before you buy the next label, and crop the ones you already have.

Quick answer

eBay labels print on a full 8.5 × 11 page when your account's label format is set to standard paper. On the desktop create-label page, find the label format, choose Change and pick 4 × 6. For a label you already bought, crop the PDF with the free 4×6 converter and print at 100%.

01 / The causeWhy eBay labels come out 8.5 × 11

eBay can produce a shipping label as a letter-size page meant for an ordinary printer, or as a 4 × 6 page meant for a label printer. Which one you get depends on the label format saved on your account. Sellers on eBay's community boards regularly report that new accounts start on standard paper, so the first thermal print often comes out small or sideways.

When a thermal printer receives a letter-size page, the driver usually shrinks the whole page to fit the 4 × 6 label. The label part of the page then ends up a fraction of its real size, with blank space or a receipt beside it. Scanners at the carrier may struggle with a shrunk barcode, so it is worth fixing rather than shipping as is.

Fit to page shrinks the label; a 4 × 6 PDF at 100% does notTwo 4 by 6 labels at the same scale. Left: a whole letter page squeezed onto the label, so the shipping label covers less than half the width. Right: a 4 by 6 PDF printed at 100 percent fills the label.Letter PDF + Fit to pagelabel shrinks to about 47%of its real width4 × 6 PDF at 100%label prints full size
Why a letter-size eBay label looks tiny on a roll: the whole page is squeezed to 4 in wide. Drawn to scale from the page sizes.

02 / Fix future labelsHow to change eBay's label format to 4 × 6

  1. Open the order and go to the create-label page in a desktop browser. Community answers say the format option does not appear in the eBay mobile app.
  2. Find the current label format, shown near the purchase summary. If it is hidden, look for Show more; on older layouts, switching to the advanced shipping view shows it.
  3. Choose Change and select the 4 × 6 label-printer format. The choice is normally remembered for later labels.
  4. Some older eBay shipping pages instead had a Printer and receipt preferences link where you pick a 4 × 6 thermal printer type.

What we verified and what we did not: these steps come from eBay community answers reviewed on October 1, 2026, not from a test purchase on our own account. eBay changes its shipping pages from time to time, so the wording on your screen may differ. If you cannot find the setting, eBay's own shipping help pages have the current layout.

03 / Fix this labelAlready bought an 8.5 × 11 label?

You do not need to void a paid label just because it is the wrong page size. You have three options:

A letter-size page cropped to a 4 × 6 labelLeft: an 8.5 by 11 inch page with the shipping label in a dashed box and instructions below it. Right: the same label on its own 4 by 6 inch page, drawn at the same scale, so nothing is shrunk.cropsame size8.5 × 11 in page4 × 6 in pageprint at 100%
Cropping keeps the label at its real size and drops the empty paper around it. Where the label sits on eBay's page can vary; this drawing shows the idea, not eBay's exact layout.
  • Reprint in 4 × 6: after changing the format, eBay may let you reprint the existing label in the new format from the order. This is the cleanest result if it is offered.
  • Crop the PDF: open the downloaded PDF in our shipping label to 4×6 tool. It crops the label area onto a 4 × 6 page and runs in your browser, so the file is not uploaded. It does not create or change postage.
  • Print on paper: print the letter-size page at 100% on plain paper, cut out the label and tape it flat by its edges, keeping any tape smooth over the barcode.

04 / The other halfPrinter settings that still shrink a 4 × 6 label

A correct 4 × 6 PDF can still print small if the printer side is wrong. Check:

  • The printer's paper size is 4 × 6 in (101.6 × 152.4 mm), not letter or A4.
  • The scale is 100% or Actual size, not Fit or Shrink to printable area.
  • Orientation is portrait for a portrait label, or set to auto.
  • If the browser's built-in PDF viewer ignores those settings, open the same file in a desktop PDF reader.

The same checks apply to Whatnot and other marketplaces; our printing-too-small guide covers where Rollo, Zebra and Munbyn drivers keep the paper size.

05 / Before it leavesCheck the label before you ship

  • The whole barcode and tracking number are on the label, with nothing cut off at the edges.
  • The address block is readable and not stretched.
  • You printed the label once and stuck it flat on the package. Printing the same label for two packages is not allowed by carriers.
